Who we are

The Consorzio Tutela del Gavi (Consortium for the Protection of Gavi), founded in 1993, protects
and promotes the GAVI DOCG Designation.
The organisation acts erga omnes on behalf and in support of the entire supply chain of
producers, winemakers and bottlers.

The Consortium works in collaboration with public authorities and local associations for the conservation, improvement and environmental sustainability of Gavi’s production, territory and terroir.
As a supporter of the DOCG promotion in 1998, the Consortium has carried out and continues to be involved in various significant projects, including clonal selection with the National Research Council (CNR) of Turin, in which the best Cortese products from the Designation’s vineyards were selected, and land analysis through mapping, gradient, altitude and exposure charts to provide producers with a scientific “map" to better assess the suitability of individual plots.
The Consortium was the first in Italy, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce and the Region, to carry out systematic verification of the vineyards belonging to the Designation from a land registry and ampelographic perspective. Through field visits and aerial photography, the exclusive presence of Cortese vine shoots was certified for the production of Gavi in its pure form.
The Consortium also offers technical and administrative consulting services.

To promote the image of Gavi in Italy and around the world, the Consortium attends the biggest trade fairs and wine shows in Italy (Vinitaly) and the world (ProdExpo - Russia, Prowein - Germany, ExpoVinis - Brazil, Vinexpo - Hong Kong); it organises workshops, conferences, tastings and courses, inviting opinion leaders, journalists and buyers to raise awareness of the area and its excellent production.
On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of GAVI DOC, at the opening of the DI GAVI IN GAVI exhibition, in which the local area traditionally showcases its distinctive features, the Consortium organised the first Gavi Laboratory meeting and invited a small number of professionals for a multidisciplinary discussion on the promotion of 'good practices' in the international valorisation of Italian food and wine supply chains.
